Axon Guidance: Push and Pull with Ephrins and GDNF
نویسنده
چکیده
The pathfinding of motor axons is an important model system for understanding binary axon guidance decisions. Recent work has shown that GDNF attracts motor neuron growth cones, and interacts synergistically with ephrinAs on growth cone directionality.

Ret Is a Multifunctional Coreceptor that Integrates Diffusible- and Contact-Axon Guidance Signals
Growing axons encounter multiple guidance cues, but it is unclear how separate signals are resolved and integrated into coherent instructions for growth cone navigation. We report that glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored ephrin-As function as "reverse" signaling receptors for motor axons when contacted by transmembrane EphAs present in the dorsal limb. Ephrin-A receptors are thought to ...
متن کاملEphrin-Mediated cis-Attenuation of Eph Receptor Signaling Is Essential for Spinal Motor Axon Guidance
Axon guidance receptors guide neuronal growth cones by binding in trans to axon guidance ligands in the developing nervous system. Some ligands are coexpressed in cis with their receptors, raising the question of the relative contribution of cis and trans interactions to axon guidance. Spinal motor axons use Eph receptors to select a limb trajectory in response to trans ephrins, while expressin...
متن کاملEFN-4 functions in LAD-2-mediated axon guidance in Caenorhabditis elegans.
During development of the nervous system, growing axons rely on guidance molecules to direct axon pathfinding. A well-characterized family of guidance molecules are the membrane-associated ephrins, which together with their cognate Eph receptors, direct axon navigation in a contact-mediated fashion. InC. elegans, the ephrin-Eph signaling system is conserved and is best characterized for their r...
متن کاملgdnf Activates Midline Repulsion by Semaphorin3B via NCAM during Commissural Axon Guidance
The Neurotrophic factor gdnf plays diverse developmental roles, supporting survival and also acting as a chemoattractant for axon and cell migration. We report that in the developing spinal cord, a focal source of gdnf is present in the floor plate (FP) where commissural axons cross the midline. Gdnf has no direct guidance properties but switches on the responsiveness of crossing commissural gr...
متن کاملAn examination of the effects of push and pull factors on Iranian national parks: Boujagh National Park, Iran
This article analyses the push and pull factors that bring visitors to the Iranian national parks. The study used a structured questionnaire to collect data on these factors and the socio-demographic profile of the visitors. Survey conducted in Boujagh National Park, an area of 3177 hectares located in the north of the Iran, produced 400 questionnaires. The factor analysis identified four push ...
